The first METRO Store was opened in Germany in 1964 by its founder Otto Beisheim. In 1968, the first MAKRO Store opened in Netherlands. The METRO subsidiaries are operating either under the name METRO or MAKRO. METRO AG was founded out of METRO Cash & Carry, subsidiaries & Asko Deutsche Kaufhaus AG in 1996. Since then, the Headquarters have been situated in Dusseldorf, Germany.
METRO Pakistan (Pvt) Limited is part of METRO GROUP’s sales division, the international leader in self-service wholesale. METRO first opened its first wholesale center in Pakistan in 2007 & expanded to 10 wholesale centers over the years. In July 2012 METRO and Makro-Habib combined their wholesale business in Pakistan marking the beginning of a long-term partnership to the mutual benefit of both companies. Today, the company operates 10 stores and several MDCs across the country, including major cities such as Lahore, Karachi, Multan, Islamabad, and Faisalabad.
